Very impressive compilation. Intertested in seeing on-line photos of
Bracewell, England or any of the early ancestors. Does anyone know the
name of the ship in which the Rev. Robert Bracewell made his voyage to
America? I have a brief paper by a family historian detailing the probable
reason Rev. Bracewell originally left England if anyone is interested.
Also, some other interesting stuff, but it is not in an on-line form yet.
Does anyone know the Bracewell tie to the Bacon's Rebellion in the late
1600's? |

I have recently seen a book on the "braswell" family, primarily on
those in Johnston county, North Carolina. From what I understand, the "Bracewell"
name is first recorded in the U.S. when a Robert Bracewell was a witness
to a land deal in 1650. To answer someone's request about a Sara Valentine(?)
on the guest book, I believe that Robert Bracewell's son Richard (born
in 1653) married a Sara Valentine. My ancestors were tobacco farmers in
N.C. and I am the g-g-grandaughter of an Alex Braswell, g-grandaugher of
a Monroe Braswell, and a grandaugher of a wonderful man who just past away,
Lester Braswell. I was fortunate enough to visit the "Braswell cemetary"
while in N.C. where my g-g-grandfather & g-grandfather are buried. |

I would be interested in knowing whom I might contact to determine
the parents of ARCHELAUS BRASWELL (born: 3 Apr 1819 and died: 18 Jul 1902
(Upper Fishing Creek, Edgecombe Co., NC.). He married MARGARET C. CUTCHIN,
(born: 10 Jul 1829 - died: 2 Apr 1881.) They were married in Edgecombe
Co. on 24 Feb 1848. They had a total of ten children. Their daughter, HELEN
ADRIENNE HYMAN (nee: BRASWELL - born: 18 Nov 1854 - died: 12 Feb 1930)
was my great grandmother on my mother's side (MARY E. LUCAS - nee: HYMAN).
Archelaus and his wife are buried at Speight Chapel, which is located near
Whitakers, NC. Any information or leads that you can provide will be greatly
appreciated. My telephone number is: 703-370-7743 With Warm Regards, John |

My father is Louis Vollice Braswell, born February 19, 1933 in Crystal
Springs, Mississippi. His father was Burl Braswell who was married to (my
father's mother) Emma Neal Farmer Braswell. We are interested in starting
our geneology on the computer; we have some information from a book that
my father has right now and are extending our search by using the computer.
We may also be able to offer some input to others with the information
we have. We're new at this, though, and are open for suggestions. |

Hi, I currently reside in Bermuda. My father, however, still lives in
Worsthorne, near Burnley Lancashire, England. It wasnt long ago that we
both visited the church in Bracewell, Yorkshire. Finding geneological information
on our familly is an ongoing, though somewhat neglected, project for me.
Our familly have been living in the area of Burnley for at least six generations
that I know of although details are sketchy. Perhaps when I get a little
more organised I can send more specific details, maybe some of the Braswells
would be interested. Jason |

Just found the other information I researched yesterday at the Nat'l
Arch in Seattle. 1920 Census lists my Great Grandparents James W. Braswell
and Jennie Braswell in Carroll Co. Ga. James w is 49 Jennie is 54. Children
listed are Mattie L 23, Olin 20, Mary 16, Emma 13, Ruby 6. This information
is on Pub# M1557, Roll 19 Vol 10, ED 11, Sheet 8, Line 64. They also had
a son Thomas which I located on the same roll and a son named Earnest which
I could not locate. Just a note that might interest you. Jennie, who I
listed as a Prince in my previous e-mail, may have been James' sister-in-law
which he married because of her age and the 1910 Census names James' wife
as Lizzie and her age as 43. So Prince could have been my gg grandmothers
maiden name or Jennie's widowed name. I will be doing more research and
will let you know |

The Braswell Line in my family is on my father's side. Willie Lee Spradlin,
son of Asa Lambert Spradlin And Mary Elizabeth Braswell (also known as
Mae). Mary Parents were James William Braswell and Jennie Prince although
the later I am still trying to substantiate. My father's family was from
Georgia, Troup County. I have been told by family members that the family
also had realitives or had once lived in Coweta Co., Meriwether Co., Heard
Co. and Carroll Co. I have found some records but I need to verify everything
that I have because not all of the family agrees on where everyone was
at, at a given period of time. I'm looking forward to browsing through
your site. Thank you for putting this information in the hands of so many
people. Sincerly, Janna Dyck Prov31Lade@AOL.com |

Hi, Keith! I'm looking forward to beginning research on my Braswell
family. I've done genealogy for a long time (since 1980), but I just discovered
my Braswell connection. I'm descended from Jacob Braswell's (Edgecombe
Co., NC) dau., Charity (Braswell) Hedgepeth. Charity moved from Edgecombe
to Bladen then Robeson Counties, NC. Her will is dated 1809 there. BTW,
my dad used to work for Penney's. He was a salesman in the men's dept.
in Borger, TX (north of Amarillo). It's nice to know there are Christian
business people out there in the world! Keep up the good Word! I'm an accounting
professor & CPA at Wayland Baptist University here in Plainview. I
really like it here--as does my family. BTW, your kids are really cute!
Before I forget--thanks so much for keeping an archive of messages. I'm
in the process of checking them out before posting a query so that I'll
be a little better informed of Braswell history. Of the surname lists I've
seen pages on, yours is the first to have an archives--thanks! |

First of all, I want to say what a WONDERFUL Web Page you have all
put together - great work!! One of the very best I've seen. Not sure if
I'm connected but my mother was a BRASSELL and I always remember her saying
some of the family went by BRASWELL. I have extremely limited information
beyond my grandfather. His name was EGBERT HICKMAN BRASSELL and he was
born in Putnam County, TN 1880 and died 1951 in Savannah, GA . . . his
father was JAMES REUBEN BRASSELL and he was born in TN (not sure where)
and died in Baxter, Putnam County, TN in 1926. The family moved to Pine
Bluff, Arkansas and there are several relatives still there, I think. Also
part of family moved to the Los Angeles, CA area but not sure who is still
living. Have no earlier info at this time but have one living uncle - RICHARD
TAYLOR BRASSELL in South Carolina and hope to get more data from him. Would
love to hear from anyone if there is a possible link. Thanks much - Patty

My mother (Annette Seely Smith) asked me to see if I could find out
anything about her grandmother who was a Braswell that married a man named
John Seely. Grandmother Seely was supposedly born at the foot of Lookout
Mountain, and moved out to California by way of Nevada. She had four children,
I understand, and I know that one of them was named Hazel, and another
was my grandfather Archer . My grandfather Archer Lynn Seely married my
grandmother Corinth Borette in California after she graduated from Mills
College prior to World War I. My grandfather Seely and family moved to
Albany Georgia in the twenties to open a typewriter store for Underwood
Typewriter Company. My mother, Annette Seely, her brother Archer Brandon
Seely, and her sister Lynn Gillespie still live in Albany. All of us have
been christened at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Albany. I will get back
to the list after I show this info from the Braswell page to my mom and
aunt the last of August. |

I am doing research for my cousins John W. Braswell of Cape Girardeaux,
MO and his brothers Earl and Charles G. Their family is from Brunswick
Co, VA. The earliest progenitor of their family that I am certain of is
JESSE BRASWELL Sr who married Lucy Conan. They had eitht (8) children.
He died prior to Dec 1829. It is supposed that Jesse's father was John
Braswell, but this is not proven. The Braswells are in Brunswick Co in
the 1810 census. I have not been able to connect this line with the Isle
of Wight Co VA Braswell families. If anyone has knowledge of this family,
please contact me and I will be glad to share what info that I have accumulated.
Thanks in advance. This is a great group with lots of very active contributors.

Co., KY about 1900. I'm not certain of my grandfather Braswell's proper
name, but I believe it was Charles. My grandmother was Willie, maiden name
Sanderson. My mother had one sister, Ruby and two brothers, Charles G,

period who may be related. I am trying to trace beyond my Grandfather Braswell.

Thanks for the time and effort you have put into this project. I have
a few reference which might interest you. There is apparently information
in Vol. 7 William and Mary Quarterly page 220 about Robert owing 300 acres
of land along the Blackwater in 1651. Page 86 of The Journal of the House
of Burgesses of Virginia edited by H.R. McIllwaine talks about Robert's
three day service in the House of Burgesses. I believe that you are aware
of the reference to Richard's matirculation form Oxford in I Henning page
378. My line comes from Robert and then through a few more generations
to Richard who came to Edgecomb County around 1740, James, Benjamin, Permenter,
Robert R. (who married Angeline Stringer, a decendant of Colonel Joseph
Bridger), Robert Stringer, Callie Berry, Walter Robert, Edwin Maurice.
I read an inquiry about James Craig Braswell. He was the grandson of Robert
R. and son of Thomas Permenter. |
